Prison Theatre

In 1999, I facilitated a workshop for women inmates at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, a federal prison in downtown Chicago.  Sponsored by Still Point Theatre Collective, the 8-week session used dialogue, improvisation and creative writing to devise a play performed by the participants.  In 2008 and 2009, I returned to the prison to repeat the workshop.

Homeless Theatre

In 2013, with Still Point Theatre Collective and Breakthrough Urban Ministries, I facilitated a workshop with women recently released from prison, being housed at a homeless shelter.  Using a combination of improvisation, written texts and creative writing from the participants, the group devised and performed an original piece, I'm Going to Stand Here.

Shakespeare with Youth Behind Bars

Othello Project

In 2003, I co-instructed a ten-week acting and theatre workshop for eight young men at the Bloomington Juvenile Treatment Facility, a juvenile correctional center later closed down by Mitch Daniels' funding cuts. Offered in collaboration with Indiana University’s Creative Learning Center, the workshop culminated in a performance of Shakespeare’s Othello.
